Thanks in part to Governor Rick Scott. According to the office of Rick Scott, Florida, Scott has planned one of the biggest conservative rebuffs against the NRA in modern memory. Scott, who is openly a member of the NRA (and a supporter of the 2nd amendment).
“I want to make it virtually impossible for anyone who is a danger to themselves or others to use a gun,” Scott said, per the New York Times. Per Scott’s office the proposal tops $500m, and, includes various things that the NRA certainly isn’t going to be happy about it.
Among the proposed new rules:
- Banning bump stocks
- Banning anyone under 21 from ever owning or buying a gun
- Restricting gun access to the mentally ill or those with convictions
- Revamping building security to include better guarded metal detectors; guards, and actual law enforcement officers.
- Including bullet proof glass in numerous schools; businesses, and the like.
Meanwhile, amid the NRA ‘s own drama about businesses dropping them as a client — the group has vowed to fight any state that attempts to raise the age limit of owning a weapon.
